Laffin Family Christmas

Brian, Ruby, Luna (the dog) and I spent Christmas in Bowling Green this year. We had a relaxing time visiting with Brian's family, watching movies, eating, going to church, and exchanging presents.

Ruby did great being away from home. She was awake during the opening of presents but slept through dinner.

Christmas Pic's

I had high hopes of sending out Christmas cards this year but it didn't happen so this will have to do. This past weekend we were able to attend Brian's company Christmas party while Grandma and Grandpa Faith babysat Ruby. We had a fun time and decided to take some pictures since we were all dressed up.

Ruby is doing well. She went to the doctor on Friday for a weight check and is up to 10 pounds. She has now doubled her birth weight and in one month went to being below the 5th percentile in weight to now being at the 10th percentile. Her doctor was very happy with this progress.

Technical Difficulties

Sorry for the lack of updates and pictures this week. Our computer is having some problems and we are not able to use it right now. We are all doing well and will be glad when the computer is back in commission. For now, you will just have to look at the old pictures of Ruby. Maybe we will find some on Granpa's computer that we can post.

Here are some pictures from about a month ago when we celebrated Tera's Grandma's birthday along with Aunt Kim and Uncle Michael's birthdays.

Tiny Babies

Ruby and Tera got to meet our friends' (Wright and Melissa) new baby girl Layla. Here is an adorable picture of Ruby and Layla. Layla is blowing bubbles for the camera.

Update on our dogs: Luna is back to her normal self. Barley has not come back and we have resigned ourselves to being a one dog family. We continue to check the shelters but hope that she has found a good home at this point.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Lost Dog

Barley and Luna got out of the yard today. After 3 hours Tera heard a banging at the door and opened it to find Luna. She was all muddy and limping. We took her to the animal hospital and she is doing okay but probably got hit by a car.

Barley has not yet come back. Tomorrow we will hit the vet offices, shelters, and put up fliers. We would appreciate prayers for Barley's safety and that we find her.

Kindred Spirits

God has blessed me (Tera) throughout my life with many friends who have encouraged me and impacted my life in a big way. This past week I got to spend some good quality time with one of those great friends-Lorie Crandall. Lorie and I met in 2001 in Philadelphia doing Mission Year (www.missionyear.org). Lorie and I had a wonderful time last week of hanging out, catching up, and Lorie getting to spend time Ruby. We loved having her here and were very grateful for the help that she gave to me as I had to change some of Ruby's eating habits last week. Here are some pictures...we didn't do anything too exciting but it was a great time. This is us at Lynn's Paradise Cafe right by our house.

Ruby and her Mama

I realized that I hardly had any pictures of me and Ruby together so I took care of that.

Stay at Home Mom

I am now officially a stay at home mom. My last day at Maryhurst (my place of employment for the past 5 years www.maryhurst.org) was on the 10th of October. Like many things it was bittersweet...I haven't been there since July so it has been a little weird but I saw many of my co-workers last week and was able to say goodbye. So far I love staying at home. I am trying to be patient with my 6 week old and not rush her into trying to fit perfectly into my schedule. I have always wanted to stay at home once I had kids and God has blessed Brian and I to be able to do this. It is not going to be easy financially but it is worth it. We are already figuring out ways to tighten our budget...goodbye YMCA membership...goodbye daily coffee shop visits...goodbye blockbuster online...goodbye eating out so much...and possibly goodbye 2nd car. Yep, Brian got into a wreck last week and we have decided to go down to one car for awhile. We are going to see how we get by and hopefully save some money. Luckily, we live in the city so I can get out and about without a car (walking). Also, on the days that I need a car Brian can ride the bus. Whatever happens we know that God will provide for us.

One Month Old

Ruby went to her one month appointment at the doctor's office yesterday. She is now 6 pounds 2 oz and 20 1/8 inches long. She is growing and growing everyday. The doctor was very pleased with her growth and how she is doing developmentally (following objects with her eyes, cooing, lifting her head, etc.). Brian and I are trying to enjoy each minute of our time with her right now because we already see that she is growing so fast and will be a little independent girl before we know it.

This picture is from last weekend when we were getting ready to go to the Harvest Homecoming festival. Ruby slept through it all of course but her parents enjoyed some tasty fair food.

What a great day

Today is Ruby's official due date. This was the date that has been stuck in our minds for 40 weeks. She is now one month old and we are so happy that she was healthy and strong when she came into the world one month ago.

This date is also the date that Brian proposed to me 2 years ago on a Sunday morning. I am so blessed to have a wonderful husband who is now proving to be a very loving and doting father!

St. James Art Fair

This weekend was the St. James Art Fair here in Louisville. This is one of our favorite events of the year and was Ruby's first experience. It was REALLY REALLY hot and we had to go between feeding times so our time was limited but we were able to snap a pic with Brian's parents.

Hangin with Holden

Ruby got to hang out with her cousin Holden this past Wednesday. Holden is 9 months older than Ruby. No, he is not slapping her in the first picture...it was more like petting her like his dog.

Ruby update

Things are going great with Ruby...she is eating, pooping, peeing, sleeping perfectly...through the hours of 4 am and 10 pm that is. Our little girl has given us a run for our money the past few nights. She has decided to stay up and eat on and off from the hours of about 10 pm to 4 am. Needless to say we are getting exhausted but understand that this is what being a parent is all about right now. She still the cutest thing we have ever seen so here are a few pictures of our sweet little girl.

Cuban Food

We got to spend some time with our friends Jessica and Smith this week. These are 2 of Tera's best friends from her Anderson University days. We went out for some delicious Cuban food and had a great time catching up.
